The Indiana Council for the Social Studies is the premier professional organization of social studies teachers in the State of Indiana. The organization supports quality social studies curriculum and instruction in Indiana's schools, by providing members a professional environment to grow and their knowledge and experiences with other practitioners.
Each year, the ICSS has an annual convention bringing together classroom teachers, university faculty, guest speakers, representatives of organizations for various subject area organizations, and publishers/vendors. General sessions are integrated with workshops, a Keynote Address, and a featured speaker.
ICSS also publishes ViewPoints, the organization's newsletter and the ICSS website.
The new ICSS website is growing. Its mission is to become the focal point for up-to-date information, discussion, and eventually quality professional development in social studies. The site will include:
- Information pages/articles
- Discussion forums on hot/key topics and concerns about teaching social studies in Indiana
- Blogs providing social studies professionals with the latest in news
- Members only pages with additional valuable social studies materials and aids.
ICSS can also be of assistance helping you in your school/school district with the implementation of a quality social studies curriculum aligned with the goal of public education to educate students for full and active participation in civic life.
ICSS is an affiliate of the National Council for the Social Studies.
